A Poet's Pen To Paper

A little love poem from an inexperienced poet. You know I’m not a poet, Not a natural one, anyway. When I was younger, I swore by prose, fantastic stories smothered with the idea of finally finding something worth writing about, before I lost my muse under one hundred misses and mental breakdowns. Still, I haven’t quite learned how to give up the period, yet. But that’s beside the point. You kn...

      it's definitely a hard situation, especially if you're a person who's not used to speaking up for what you need. just remember that hearing that is a part of their job, they won't take it personally, and it'll be great for you in the long run! their #1 priority is what's best for you, and they know that the relationship between a therapist and the patient is the most important aspect of successful treatment.

    And as a non-dramatic/traumatic inclusion, I easily get distracted by food. Recently got distracted by borscht(s) and made some for a neighbor; she loves it (beet, vinegar, cabbage, potato+). Question: are "non-diagnosed" considered valid? Many are of the opinion that the answer is NO, unless it has been stated by an "expert". I am careful to not use certain words, but have been unable to get a doctor (US, VA) to signify that I may have some kind of issues. I am a combat vet (Gulf War '91) and will be 52 this month; still have no answers or even acknowledgement that something may be wrong with me.

    • @melsig
      @melsig 5 лет назад

      that's a great idea for a video! i have so many thoughts about diagnoses and the way we talk about them. thanks for the idea!

      @@melsig Alayna Joy (Canada) and Kirstie Bryce (Scotland) also have videos about not-diagnosed people. My apologies for bringing it up. All I have is the VA; one doc actually said, "It's your own fault; volunteer military, so you didn't HAVE to join like the Vietnam draft. That was from the Psych; med doctor was even more condescending. I learnd to keep my mouth shut and not talk about anything or do anything. My closet locks from the inside. Again, my apologies for bringing it up. I never even knew what I should have tried telling the doctors, that's why I mistakenly tried talking to others about it. I quickly learned my lesson that I don't belong anywhere. I'll still be a patro so you can help real people who deserve your help, but I have aleady heard for many years that I am not one of them. I'll delete my stupid comments in a couple days after i figure you got the input, but I dont need more people tracking me down to remind me i should stfu since im not diagnosed and therfore just faking it.

    • @tempvsfrangit3854
      @tempvsfrangit3854 5 лет назад

      @@melsig My apologies for being overly emotional again. That's the only thing the doctors confirmed. It's my own fault for being a bad child who needed to be disciplined so often. It's my own fault for joining the military "to run-away from home" rather than trying to work things out with my mother. It's my own fault my body got messed up because I didn't take care of it. "It's a *volunteer* military now; you didn't HAVE to join." -- my physician. My own fault my mother turned to drugs and alcohol because I caused her to become depressed and bipolar (she actually was diagnosed). It's my own fault I left again 22 years ago. And I know it's my own fault for quitting trying to see the doctors because I was getting much more sad and unhappy. I can't say that chronic depression was getting worse and suicidal thoughts were encroaching because those words have to be diagnosed by a professional. Video against people claiming symptoms would be a good idea to relaunch your channel. I left myself another note next to my laptop to make sure I don't make the mistake of commenting, like I've done before on other channels. I'm glad you're helping the people who have been diagnosed and are worth helping.

    It's true. I miss how real people from tumblr were. I've met so many genuine people on there. I miss the connections I used to have with complete strangers from different parts of the globe. I miss the homey feeling I had after a shitty day from school and I could just immerse myself with whatever it is I found on tumblr. Tumblr used to be my safe place because the outside world was horrible. I relished on the idea that I belonged somewhere and I knew stuff no one from my school did--the fandoms, the witty quotes, the crude terms, random references, dan, onceler. Nowadays, I just see a bunch of screenshots of tumblr posts on facebook and social media. And let's not forget how old tumblr lingo eventually made its way to facebook and has since become mainstream (i.e words like ship, fandom, etc...). I was a member since 2009, but had only started becoming active in 2011, and I noticed that by 2014 on wards, there had been a steady decline of good posts on tumblr and I noticed that most of the people interacted with on there became less active, which made me less active as well. I still go on my tumblr from time to time. I still queue a bunch of posts to keep it alive (I actually scheduled a post for 3027 once just to see what happens). Glad to know that I'm not the only one who feels this way.

    I have the benefit of being like 10+ years older than you so please tell me to stay in my lane if I start swerving, but I think who you are will become clearer to you with each passing year. It’s really frustrating to be a young adult who feels out of touch with yourself or not sure what you want or what you like to do or what you’re trying to work towards. I can tell you that I never figured it out, and then life happened to me haha and now I’m 30 and what I have experienced is that there has never been one fixed version of myself that is ultimately my true self. Every year I’m different, every year my goals and hobbies change, every year there are no challenges that shape me. (Fun fact this is a Buddhist concept also)

    • @melsig
      @melsig 6 лет назад

    This is very relatable don’t you worry. I’ve been dealing with weird brain stuff since middle school so that’s like 6 years and obviously I’ve changed a lot but I still don’t quite know who I am especially bc still working through stuff. But it’s okay bc you’re supposed to continually figure yourself out over your life, right? I don’t want grandma Izzy to be the same as 18 year old Izzy. It is easy to look long term and say oh yeah I have time to figure stuff out but also I get that it’s stressful not knowing what you’re about. How can I clearly separate my personality from my dysfunctional brain when they’ve been overlapping so much for the past 6 years? Within the past year, I’ve rediscovered the enjoyment of drawing, which was something I enjoyed a while ago but stopped doing. So I guess try to do new things? And make sure you schedule time to do those things. I’m somewhat of a workaholic in school, which is pretty unhealthy. My therapist has been having me try to have more time for Izzy things. Saturday morning is my sleep in/lazy time. Sleep in late, make myself a nice breakfast, do something fun like baking or drawing or whatever. This was really hard for me to feel comfy doing bc so much of my time and energy was devoted to keeping it together and getting things done for school that taking breaks was not something I routinely did. After being able to step out of school oriented Izzy, I have been able to find other things about me. So go do a new thing it what I’m trying to say I guess. I’ll also be here trying to figure out who I am tho

    My old Greek teacher who was in his mid 80s once told my class a story about going to a school reunion and meeting a trans woman whom he used to teach at an all boys school and the way he talked about that experience was super validating and positive. He didn't know I was trans, but it made me feel so good to know that he would be accepting if I ever meet him post-transition.

    Here’s a so not nice story but I find the situation quite ironic and it is related. I’m taking a class called “intercultural communication” and the instructor is very open that “hey I’m accepting and inclusive”. But he says a lot of stuff / uses language in lecture that is pretty trans-exclusionary. He is one of those annoying people who insist on using “he or she” instead of “they”. He does mention lgbt culture as a thing but not so much actually being inclusive. He seems to be more inclusive with sexual orientation rather than gender identity- he will mention “people of different sexual orientations” but doesn’t talk about trans people at all. I did a worksheet where we applied concepts to from the textbook to look at a microculture we were part of and I used “menstruation culture”. And when I got it back he had written “maybe it would be better to say ‘female culture’?” Sir, no it would not be better. I specifically used menstruation bc it is inclusive of people who don’t identify as female but do menstruate or who do identify as female but don’t menstruate. Maybe he’s going off female as a biological thing but I think it would be more inclusive to use menstruation bc not all females menstruate- especially after menopause-and transmen and nonbinary people can. Maybe I’m just being petty. I don’t know. Thanks for reading my rant I guess
